PlayStation 3 is the third home video game console produced by Sony Computer Entertainment as the successor to the PlayStation 2 in a series of PlayStation. It competes with Microsoft Xbox 360 and Nintendo Wii as part of the seventh generation of gaming consoles. Big shiny black console to dominate any platform that is placed under the TV. Sony might get around to going small, but it never does on the first outing – remember how big the PS1 and PS2 were first time around? Well the PS3 makes both look relatively tiny considering. There is no two ways about it, the PlayStation 3 is a big beast, but a shiny one at that.

Its storage medium and one of its best features is its Blu-Ray drive. Other key features include the PlayStation Network, its robust multimedia capabilities and connectivity with the PlayStation Portable. It comes with an interchangeable, integrated hard drive, wi-fi, a Dualshock 3 controller, two or four USB slots, a HDMI slot, power cable, and a composite slot and cable.

The PS3 measures 12.8 inches wide by 3.8 inches high by 10.8 inches long. There’s no external power supply for the PS3. On the front, four USB ports for connecting (and charging) controllers and other accessories, including USB keyboards, charms, and PSP. Rounding out the front panel is a memory card reader, a door that supports not only the memory card of the entire family on the Memory Stick from Sony, but Compact Flash and SD / MMC, too.

PlayStation 3 can read digital photos attached to various USB devices including digital cameras, PSP, USB flash drives as well as the home burned CD-R. As for the music, the PS3 is compatible with most major file types of music, including MP3, ATRAC, AAC and WAV, and like the Xbox 360 has a built-in music visualizer. On the video front, PS3 plays Blu-ray discs in full high definition DVD movies. It also supports MPEG1, MPEG2, video files and MPEG4/h.264 USB drive or media.
